No. 15 Clemson takes its undefeated record on the road this week to face off with fellow-unbeaten No. 10 Virginia Tech in a rare ACC battle of top-15 teams. Thanks to quality wins against Auburn and Florida State, the Tigers continue to climb the polls after beginning the year unranked. The Hokies were pegged as a darkhorse national title contender early on, despite the loss of four-year starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor to graduation.

The past two ACC Atlantic Division champions square off this weekend in a pivotal conference matchup as Clemson welcomes Florida State to Tiger Stadium and Death Valley. The Seminoles and Tigers have split the last 10 games in the series, with the home team winning each of the last four. FSU has not won at Clemson in a decade, but secured a victory in Tallahassee last year when kicker Dustin Hopkins booted a 55-yard field goal as time expired. Quarterback E.J. Manuel got the start for the ‘Noles in place of the injured Christian Ponder and scored his team’s only touchdown in the 16-13 win.

Old foes clash in College Park this week as Maryland plays host to Mid-Atlantic rival West Virginia. The schools, separated by just 200 miles, often battle over recruiting territory and area bragging rights. West Virginia holds a slight edge in the head-to-head matchup, winning the past five contests against the Terrapins. Maryland looks to rebound in the series after a strong performance in week one against ACC opponent Miami.

Both teams opened the 2011 campaign against non-BCS programs and cruised to lopsided victories. UNC is a popular pick for this year’s Champs Sports Bowl after a stunning double-overtime win against Tennessee in last season’s Music City Bowl.
